About

The story behind Lygofast, from family roots in music to the identity, sound, and live experience that define the project today.

The story

Nikki Quinn Baker, known professionally as Lygofast, grew up surrounded by music, inspired from an early age by his dad playing drums and building a life in music. His father was signed to Capitol Records and even had a song featured in the first Terminator movie, which made a lasting impression and helped shape Nikki's own path. Nikki became fully invested in making music after discovering Krewella, whose sound helped seal the deal and became a major inspiration behind his love for vocal chops and melodic textures. After watching one of their music videos, he knew he wanted to perform live at events and eventually take his music on tour.

As Nikki's music career began to take shape, he knew he needed an identity that people would remember. He pulled from an old Xbox-era username, Lygofast, and gave it new life as his artist name. From there, he started thinking about how to grab attention in a live setting and experimented with different masks until he found one on Amazon that felt right. Still wanting something even more unexpected to turn heads, he came across a professional hairstyling mannequin head at a beauty store, and that discovery became the beginning of Jessica the wife.

In his early production days, Lygofast spent a lot of time experimenting with vocal chops. At first, the results were not always polished, but the melodic identity of the style was already starting to take shape. That same approach soon carried over into remixes of popular songs, where he kept refining the technique and pushing it further. Over time, he fully developed the sound, giving him the ability to weave his melodic vocal chops naturally into any track, whether it is an original production or a remix.

When performing live, Lygofast only plays songs he personally produced, whether they are original tracks or remixes. If he did not have a hand in making the music, it does not make it onto the dance floor. That commitment to a fully personal set is what sets him apart from other DJs. Add in the costumes and Jessica by his side on stage, and a Lygofast performance becomes its own unmistakable experience.

Roots

Lygofast grew up around music, with his dad playing drums and building a real career in the industry. Seeing his father signed to Capitol Records and connected to a song in the first Terminator movie helped make music feel like something real to chase. That early influence became the foundation for Nikki’s own path as an artist.

Identity

The name Lygofast came from an old Xbox-era username, but the project quickly became much bigger than a name alone. Nikki built a live identity around masks, costumes, and a stage presence designed to be impossible to ignore. That creative search eventually led to Jessica, giving the project a visual personality that stands out as much as the music does.

Sound

After discovering Krewella, Nikki became fully invested in making music and started shaping the melodic vocal-chop style that would define his sound. What began as early experimentation grew into remixes, originals, and a production approach he could carry into any track. On stage, that same focus continues, with sets built only from music he personally created or remixed.
